Royal Canin

At Gentle Giant Bernedoodles, we’re committed to giving our dogs the very best care possible, and that starts with what we feed them. After years of raising these wonderful pups and trying out numerous dog food brands, we’ve landed on a clear favorite: Royal Canin. Hands down, it’s the food that has made the biggest difference in the health, happiness, and vitality of our Bernedoodles—from our playful puppies to our majestic adults.

    ✓    A Game-Changer for Our Adult Dogs
We’ve experimented with plenty of dog food brands over the years, but none have matched the results we see with Royal Canin. The difference is noticeable in so many ways. Our adult Bernedoodles have shinier, healthier hair coats that practically glow. Their moods seem brighter, and their agility is impressive—whether they’re romping around the yard or just keeping up with daily activities. Overall, their health has been exceptional, and we credit Royal Canin’s balanced nutrition for keeping them in top shape.

✓    The Puppy Advantage: Royal Canin Maxi Starter
Where Royal Canin really shines, though, is with our puppies. From 4 to 8 weeks old, we feed them Royal Canin Maxi Starter, and the transformation during this critical growth stage is remarkable. Compared to other brands we’ve tried, the puppies on Royal Canin develop faster, with stronger bodies and more energy. Their stools are noticeably better—firmer and healthier—which is a huge relief for us as breeders and a sign of good digestion. Their coats come in soft, shiny, and full, and perhaps most importantly, they just seem more content. These little ones are relaxed, fulfilled, and ready to take on the world—one wagging tail at a time. Our Commitment to Quality

At Gentle Giant Bernedoodles, we pour our hearts into raising happy, healthy dogs, and feeding them Royal Canin is a big part of that promise. From the moment our puppies are born to the day they join their forever families—and in the lives of our adult dogs who stay with us—we rely on Royal Canin to keep them thriving.

Puppy Training 101: A Guide from Gentle Giant Bernedoodles

Welcoming a new Bernedoodle puppy into your home is an exciting adventure, and at Gentle Giant Bernedoodles, we’re here to help you set the foundation for a well-behaved, happy companion. Training your puppy is one of the most rewarding investments you can make, and with the right approach, it can be a fun bonding experience for both of you. Here’s our comprehensive *Gentle Giant Bernedoodles Puppy Training Guide* to get you started.

When to Start: The Golden Window
Puppies are like little sponges between **8 and 16 weeks of age**, soaking up everything they experience. This is the optimal time to begin training, as their brains are wired to learn and adapt quickly. The moment your Gentle Giant Bernedoodle steps into your home, training can—and should—begin. Early lessons in this critical period shape their behavior for life.

The First Step: Potty Training and Routine

The cornerstone of puppy training is **potty training**. A consistent routine is your best friend here. Take your puppy outside frequently—after waking up, eating, or playing—and watch for telltale signs like circling, sniffing, or squatting. When they go potty outside, shower them with praise and a small treat. This positive reinforcement helps them connect the dots: outside is the place to go!

Establishing a predictable schedule not only speeds up potty training but also provides your puppy with a sense of security.

Mastering Basic Obedience
Once potty training is underway, focus on **basic commands** like "sit," "come," and "watch me." These are the building blocks of good behavior:

- "Sit": A simple yet versatile command for everyday situations, from mealtime to greeting guests.
- "Come": Essential for safety, ensuring your puppy returns to you when called.
- "Watch Me": Teaches focus, helping your puppy tune out distractions and connect with you.

Keep sessions **short and fun**—5 to 10 minutes is perfect for their limited attention spans. Use treats, praise, and an upbeat tone to make learning a game they’ll love.

Socialization: Building a Confident Pup
Socialization is a must during the 8-to-16-week window. Expose your puppy to new people, dogs, sounds, and environments in a safe, positive way. A well-socialized Bernedoodle is less likely to develop fear or aggression later in life. Consider puppy socialization classes for structured play and learning—your Gentle Giant will thank you with wagging tails and friendly demeanor!

Crate Training: A Safe Haven
Introduce your puppy to their crate early, turning it into a cozy den. Toss in a treat or toy to lure them inside, and let them explore at their own pace. Gradually increase their time in the crate, always pairing it with positive experiences. A crate-trained puppy feels secure when you’re away and settles more easily at night.

Leash Training: Step by Step
Get your puppy comfortable with a collar and leash as soon as possible. Start with short indoor sessions, letting them drag the leash around, then progress to brief walks. Reward them for walking near you without pulling. Patience here pays off—soon, your Gentle Giant Bernedoodle will strut confidently by your side.

Teaching Their Name: A Personal Connection
Your puppy’s name is their first command. Say it often during happy moments—when they’re playing, eating, or looking at you—and follow it with a treat or praise. This builds a positive association, so when you call their name, they’ll perk up and focus on you.

Keys to Success
- Start Early: The sooner, the better—don’t wait to lay the groundwork.
- Consistency: Stick to the same cues, rewards, and routines.
- Patience and Positivity: Puppies thrive on encouragement, not frustration. Celebrate every small win!
- Short Sessions: Keep it brief to match their attention span and end on a high note.
